When Lady Helmsman was first shown at the Swedish "Allt
för Sjön" in March 1976, 35 boats was immediately sold even though no single boat
had ever been sailing. Read the brochure from the show (in
Swedish). The deep V-shaped hull gives the boat nice and calm going in the sea. She behaves well, and is decently dry, even reaching through rough sea. The deep V-shape also gives an extreme track stability (good and bad). A Lady is no winner in a tight tack-duel, but on the other hand, correctly sheeted, she stays more or less on track on her own. About 185 boats were built in the second half of the 1970;s. Close to 60 were exported, mainly to the other Scandinavian countries, but also as far as to Australia, and the US. About 125 boats are still in Sweden. In the end of the 1980;s another ten to fifteen boats were built in a "GT'-version, having taller mast, and a modified rudder. A number of the original Ladies has been modified to have a longer boom, and larger fore triangle, they are called Lady II. Lady Helmsman and Lady Helmsman II shall be molded in the Lady Helmsman mold. Lady GT shall be molded in either one of the Lady GT or Lady Helmsman mold. |

There is a big demand for second hand Ladies, I
get phone calls and mail from people all over the world asking me if I know a boat for
sale, or what to look for when you are about to buy one. To make your life easier I can
tell you that my phone number is +46 8 760 77 27, but I also have to say I usually don't
know any boats for sale except the ones presented at the bottom of the "Data"
page. I also get questions regarding the "right" price level. It is unfortunately more or less impossible to tell a generic price for a 25-30 year old boat.It depends very much on the over all condition and the equipment. The boats I know of that was recently sold had a price between 350 and 450 kSEK (~60-75 kUS$), giving you an idea of the problem of telling a correct price. Some of the boats sold had several bidders from all over Europe. I usually say a good boat, decently equipped, and usable sails costs around 400 kSEK take or give 30 (~65 +/-5 kUS$). Two new sails costs from 30 kSEK and up (~5 kUS$), new cushions 15-20 kSEK (~3 kUS$), and a new engine between 50 and 100 kSEK (~7-15 kUS$).

This is the first page in English at this site,
my language skills aren't as good as they could be, and the sailing-lingo doesn't make it
any easier... I'd like to thank Bill Walsh-Rogalski, Lady-sailor in the US, for his support in getting this page up and running. Please let me know if you spot any major mistakes, or if you have any input to the page. |
